Tips - "link-local IPv6 address" is calculated by the computer for that network. No "DHCPv6" server is required. Link-local IPv6 addresses are easy to identify (they start
with fe80::) and no IPv6 router will route traffic to or from
those addresses. In other words, they work the same way as the
169.254.x.x range

Enable
Quick Launch - (then make double wide toolbar like below!)
1. First, right-click on the taskbar and turn off "Lock
the Taskbar."
2. Right-click the taskbar, hover over Toolbars, and select New Toolbar.
3. When it asks you to select a folder, enter this string: %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch
4. Find Quick Launch (it may be on the right side of the taskbar), right-click
the divider and disable "Show
Text" and "Show Title." Make sure "Large Icons" is enabled.
5. Drag the divider to rearrange Quick Launch on your taskbar (using left-click).
6. Right-click and lock your toolbar again.

Change
default RDP PORT to access 2nd PC on network via firewall: (i.e. 3390, 3391...)
Start > RUN> REGEDIT>
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\
Open PortNumber, on the Edit menu, click Modify, and then click Decimal.
Type the new port number, and then click OK. (default is 3389)
Forward new port (i.e. 3390) to internal IP now via router
Then from outside LAN PC use XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:3390 or MyXPPro:3390
*WIN7 - if you chacnge port to 55555 from 3389 you must manually allow those
ports in the firewall rules as well (UDP and TCP) Add new Rule under FIREWALL > ADVANCED
SETTINGS on left> > PORT > 55555 > TCP save as _RDP for 55555 TCP
sonicwall
vpn workaround for Win 7 - Says it cant find the IPSec driver
after rebootJust made the same post in the 64 bit windows 7 thread but for the 64 bit version
at least, you can work around the issue by going into device manager,
select view hidden devices and then go to non plug and play devices
and manually start the sonicwall ipsec driver. Probably the same
will work for the 32bit version.
Update
- Good news, I have an update for the work around and it works like
a champ. I have tested it. Still in the same Non-PnP Drivers, right
click on the SonicWall IPSec Driver and go to Properties. Go to
the Drivers tab and Change the Startup Type from System to Automatic.
Click start to start up the service now. Click OK. On your next
reboot it will stay started.

Printer Tips via John:
to share Printers attached to XP computers with either X-64 or X-32 versions
of Windows 7 is SIMPLE. These instructions are for the Printer attached
to the XP machine (but works in reverse as well).
("Stand alone" Network printers can be done slightly similarly BTW).
assume the computers are call XPMACHINE and W7MACHINE.
1) Ensure Printer on XP machine is shared - assume it's
called SHAREDPRINTER.
2) On the Network Browsing on your Windows 7 machine
ensure you can "See" the Printer share.
Now on the Windows 7 machine do the following (doesn't
matter if it's X-86 or x-64).
3) Control Panel==> add LOCAL
(Yes LOCAL) printer. I know it's on a Network but hold your horses
-- what we are actually doing is "Poodlefaking" the Windows 7 machine into thinking it's running the printer.
4) Create NEW port==>Local
port
5) Portname is \\XPMACHINE\SHAREDPRINTER
6) Now Windows 7 will load a driver and you'll be able
to print on the XP machine.
Simple
(For a "Network stand alone printer")
at 4) chose TCPIP port
and at 5) enter the IP address.
If the printer is on the Windows 7 machine and you want to print on
the XP machine then do the same instructions on the XP machine --
port name in this case will be \\W7MACHINE\SHAREDPRINTER
